Web Development
Client Specification
All design requirements start with the needs of the client. Through consultation with the client, ASP are able to deliver a design sketched from the client specifications that will benefit the client and their audience.
Site Design
There are many ways to develop a website, but some of these ways can influence the accessibility of the site. ASP prefer to design sites that are informative, helpful and accessible to all web users. Sometimes, a compromise has to be met between 'presentation' and 'content' to achieve a goal and still maintain accessibility. All sites can be made to look presentable without the use of fancy plugins. Sites that are designed without the need for the user to download plugins, are the best sites because they load extremely fast, thus saving the client valuable time and money spent online. If the site is designed well and the content of the site is interesting and attractive, then the user has a pleasurable experience and is likely to bookmark the site for revisits.
Online Mapping
This is where the ability for a site to gain maximum coverage is profiled. Here we check for hit rate, browser compatibility and user awareness. A good website is one that is visible over many browsers. As mentioned above, many users don't have or allow certain functions to be activated ie: javascript, cookies, Flash etc. Without these functions loaded or enabled, it is not possible to view certain content. Search engines also have a problem indexing your website if your website is encased in frames. As discussed before, this would also slow down the speed at which a user can download content, and would also increase a users' time and cost online. Keeping a website simple yet attractive would still be more beneficial for both the client and the user.
Page Coding
Page coding is dependent upon the application required, however most pages are coded in html (hypertext module language). This is the standard language used although more advanced versions are now been used ie: dhtml, xhtml and css. Pages are also coded in javascript, vb/asp.net, perl, xml and flash. The language that ASP chooses to use will be the most compatible with the standard set by the W3C, taking into consideration the type of application you require and the hosting facilities you may already have.
Site Mutimedia
Every client wants their site to look attractive. This usually requires some sort of graphic or animation. ASP are not opposed to designing sites with graphics and animations, although we would advise a limit on the quantity of graphics used and the plugin required to view animations or video clips.
e-Commerce
Of all the websites designed to date, it is e-Commerce websites that require the most storage space and download time. This is acceptable considering that an e-commerce site is an online shop. It may/may not require loads of graphics and will definitely require user interaction, all of which requires more coding. As with all designs, ASP can advise the best way to bring your products and services online.
